The world of AI girlfriends, secret agents and voice clones | #11
More than just ChatGPT.
the perfect “virtual” girlfriend.
AInspirations fam - thank you for being here as always and supporting my mission of giving AI founders, tools, news, events and influencers in Asia a voice, and making AI simple and relevant for the man on the street!
###

Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO, sparked a big conversation this week—Gen Z men might choose AI over real women. On Scott Galloway’s podcast, he suggested that AI could become the perfect “virtual” girlfriend for lonely young men struggling with relationships.
It’s fascinating, but also kind of creepy. When AI gets too good at meeting our emotional needs, what does that mean for real human connections?

Remember the Trolley Problem?
The trolley problem is a thought experiment used to explore how people make moral decisions in tricky situations. In a fictional scenario, an onlooker has to choose between saving 5 people in danger of being hit by a trolley, or diverting the trolley to kill just 1 person.
Well, someone gave ChatGPT the keys to this moral dilemma. The twist? It had to pick between sacrificing 7 billion Nobel Prize winners or… saving itself.

Tool of the week: impress.ai
1/ Why did you create impress.ai?
Job applications can be incredibly stressful—not just for candidates trying to find the right fit but also for recruiters juggling pressure from hiring managers to fill vacancies quickly and accurately. As someone with a PhD in intelligent agents, I saw how AI in recruitment was often ineffective or unethical. I knew there had to be a better way to make the process better for everyone involved.
2/ How did you come up with the name impress.ai?
We wanted a short, memorable name that captured our mission. During a long drive from Melbourne, my co-founder came up with “impress.” It perfectly reflects the job application process, where recruiters and candidates aim to impress each other. The best part? Wrapping up a demo and seeing clients smile as they say, “That was really impressive.”
3/ What problems does impress.ai solve?
Companies worldwide are realizing that making accurate hiring decisions efficiently is critical—especially as candidates use generative AI to tailor their CVs and interview responses to job descriptions. Finding the balance between accuracy, consistency, efficiency, and a great hiring experience is tough, especially at scale, without AI.
impress.ai is an AI-powered recruitment platform that helps enterprise recruiters build AI agents to streamline the hiring process and speed up decisions. With intelligent agent technology, it automates everything from engagement to onboarding—assessments, scheduling, reference checks—all through highly engaging AI agents.
4/ What can we expect to see from Impress AI in the next 12 months?
For the past seven years, we’ve partnered with leading enterprises in Singapore and Indonesia to leverage AI for faster, smarter hiring—using customizable agent-powered workflows long before “Agentic AI” was a trend. Now, with generative AI, recruiters can create these custom bots in seconds instead of hours. As a result, around 1,000 AI agents are created every month on impress.ai.
