They got it down Pat: PatSnap, a Singapore unicorn, plans to expand its AI-driven patent search capabilities across industries like pharma and material sciences. Their AI-powered chatbots help researchers and IP lawyers easily understand complex patent documents from different regions. By simplifying the patent process, PatSnap is helping businesses innovate faster and stay ahead.

Malaysia’s AImbition: Malaysia is set to launch a National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Office this November, aiming to become Southeast Asia’s AI hub. With efforts like the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, the country is eager to attract global tech innovators and lead the way in digital transformation.

Tech Titans’ AI Spending Spree: Big tech giants are pouring massive amounts of money into the AI market, creating a frenzy that's reshaping traditional venture capital. This rush of cash is distorting the usual investment landscape, where tech behemoths are now calling the shots and potentially sidelining smaller VC players.

World’s first AI treaty signed: Countries from across the globe—including the US, UK, and the EU—have signed the first-of-its-kind, legally binding, international AI treaty designed to make sure that AI systems align with “human rights, democracy and the rule of law.” Would be interesting to see what this would mean for Asia in the near future.

Canva Teams’ users can expect prices to increase by 300% next year, following the company’s aggressive rollout of its Gen AI features. Here are some Canva alternatives we’ve found that could potentially fill the gap (you’re very welcome!).

  • Designs.ai - Its features or templates may not be as sophisticated or comprehensive as Canva’s - but has everything you need to create images, videos, logos, social posts, posters and more. Thank me later.

  • Playground.com - Lets you create and edit images like a pro without being one. You can also add elements, erase/change your background, or create images using your own sketches. Give it a spin.

  • Typeface.ai - Ok, if I’m gonna pay through my kidneys for Canva, then I might as well look at other tools that can significantly power my creative work. Typeface empowers you to create amazing on-brand content, ad campaigns and creatives at speed. Watch the video below.
